Philly Flood pictures from Hurricane Irene

Philly doesn’t usually partake in flood parties, but Hurricane Irene swept in some extra rain water that made rivers and creeks crest at a well above flood level. Delaware River, Schuylkill River, and a lot of the larger creeks, such as Neshaminy creek, which is about half the size of a river, decided to flood the lower sea level roads, homes, stores, etc. There were even two people arrested for riding a raft down Main Street in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia. (Someone please send me pictures of Manayunk’s flood – my photographer couldn’t get into town since the roads were blocked!)

These Hurricane Irene flood pictures are from an area just outside Philadelphia, called Lower Bucks County. It’s not nearly as devastating as Katrina or other major flood disaster pictures, but for people who rarely get weather like this, it was definitely a new experience.

PS – does anyone else think of creepy little creatures from Halo when they hear the word flood? Or is it just me because I’m an Xbox video game Halo nerd?
